Hypnosis and
HypnoBirthing® |
|
|
| What is
hypnosis? |
| According to Webster's: |
|
A repressed state
of mental functioning in which ideas are accepted by suggestion
rather than logical evaluation. |
| According to the National
Hypnotherapy Training Center: |
| An altered state of
consciousness, where the subconscious level of the mind is
open and responsive to receive suggestions. |
| The ability to access
specific trance states with the intention to create change in
the mind leading to changes in the physical body and in living
life. |
| A narrowing state of
attention. A heightened state of concentrated focused
attention. |
| A process that relaxes,
then bypasses the Critical Conscious Factor to establish
acceptable selective thinking. A process of accessing the
subconscious mind with suggestions to achieve a specific
outcome. |
| A natural state of the
nervous system that is characterized by increased
suggestibility. An altered state of consciousness that can be
purposefully induced in which access to sub conscious
material, heightened suggestibility, and focused attention
take place. |
| Hypnosis is something you
do for yourself. No one else can hypnotize you. |
| Hypnosis is an inside
job, it changes us from the inside out. |
|
| According to the Hypnosis
Motivational Institute it is: |
|
“Hypnosis is
created by an overload of message units, disorganizing our
inhibitory process (Critical Mind), triggering our fight/flight
mechanism and ultimately resulting in a hyper suggestible state,
providing access to the subconscious mind.” |
|
|
The hypnotic process involves: |
| Intention |
| Rapport |
| Belief and Expectancy |
| Desire and Motivation |
| Suggestion and Imagination |
| Language and Emotion |
|
| How
does hypnosis work? |
| Suggestions become Beliefs |
| Beliefs become Feelings |
| Feelings become Attitudes |
| Attitudes become Behaviors |
| Behaviors become Success or
Failure (this depends on the initial suggestion) |
|
|
How I became interested in
hypnosis: |
|
I was unpacking from
a trip in Florida when Dateline (September 1999) had a piece about
pain-free childbirth with hypnosis. I stood and watched the whole story
with my arms crossed, sure that this would be 'one of those stories' that
was a crock! I was not convinced by the
end that hypnosis could offer up
comfortable birthing, but I did like the part about being able to control
your own bleeding... enough to look this story up on the computer. I
found HypnoBirthing® listed and it was coming to my hometown! A 'sign'
for sure I should look into this 'new' method of childbirth preparation. |
|
I have been teaching
HypnoBirthing since 1999 and also get to see exactly how it works, as I am
often in the birthroom with the very clients that took class with me.
I have just completed hypnosis
training-finally, after wanting to expand my knowledge and abilities with
this amazing technique for years. |
